LINDSBORG, Kan. – Warrior tennis had a tough matchup against the Swedes on Monday, April 6. Fernando Vargas managed to score a point for Sterling with a win in No. 2 singles but the team lost to Bethany, 6-1.
The Warriors started with a battle in doubles play. Rubem Bogomoltz and Adam King were able to secure a 6-4 win over Gustavo Cardoso and Sebastian Stipanov in No. 2 doubles play. However, Sterling couldn’t capitalize on the win as Fernando Vargas and Kazuki Fukushima lost the No. 1 doubles match against Francisco Bravo and Martin Priban, 7-6 (7-3). The Warriors lost the point with a loss in No. 3 doubles as Pedro Felipoff and Cassidy Kelly lost to Diego Bsereni and Dylan Gwilt, 6-1.
Vargas got Sterling’s sole win in singles play with a, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, win over Se. Stipanov in No. 2 singles. King came close to upsetting Cardoso in the No. 3 singles, losing set one 6-4, before battling back to win set two 6-2, but lost the tiebreaker match 6-2.
In No. 1 singles, Felipoff lost to Bravo 6-1, 6-4. Fukushima battles against Bsereni in No. 4 singles play, but came up short 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). In the No. 5 singles match, Bogomoltz lost to Gwilt 6-4, 6-3, and Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma closed things out with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Santiago Stipanov in No. 6 singles play.
Up next, Sterling will take on Tabor College on Thursday, April 9 with play to begin at 2:30 p.m.
