Oklahoma Wesleyan University, ranked no. 10 in the NAIA, secured a decisive 7-0 victory over Sterling College on Saturday, Sept. 20 in Bartlesville, Okla. The Eagles dominated the match, scoring four goals in the first half and adding three more in the second. The home team registered 29 shots, with 15 on target, while Sterling’s defense struggled to contain the offensive onslaught.
The first half began with OKWU taking an early lead, as Kylie Reif scored in the opening minute. Despite Bella Duckworth‘s multiple saves, including stops against Jenna Vick and Tessa Edwards, OKWU extended their advantage with three more goals, one of which was scored by Ana Chavez in the 31st minute.
The second half began with steadfast defense from Sterling, as Duckworth made critical saves at 52:19 and 77:30 to fend off OKWU’s advances. Despite her efforts, the home team broke through with a goal in the 57th minute by Isabelle Simoneau, who went on to complete a hat-trick with additional goals at 80:19 and 83:55.
Duckworth recorded eight saves in the match, facing 15 shots and playing all 90 minutes.
The Lady Warriors move to 2-5 on the season, 0-2 in conference and are set to take on McPherson College (2-2-3, 0-1-1) in Sterling, Kan. on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
