STERLING, Kan. — Ottawa University defeated Sterling 3-1 on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the final game of the season. Sterling took an early lead with a goal in the first half, but the Braves responded with three goals in the second half to secure the victory.

The match commenced with Sterling setting the tone early in front of the home crowd. Despite two early wide shots from Francesca Vilca and Jessica Gautreau, Sterling maintained pressure. Key defensive contributions came from goalkeeper Bella Duckworth, who saved two shots in quick succession to keep Ottawa scoreless.

Momentum shifted decisively at the 33rd minute when Gautreau found the net, assisted by Dakota Reid‘s well-placed corner kick. This gave Sterling a 1-0 lead. The period concluded with Sterling ahead, solidifying their advantage going into the next half.

The second period began with Sterling looking to capitalize on a level scoreline. Vilca tested Ottawa’s goalkeeper, Makena Tapia, early with a shot in the 52nd minute, but it was saved. The Braves then broke the deadlock in the 71st minute with a goal by Riley Smith, moving ahead 1-0.

Sterling continued to push forward with attempts from Cheyenne Siler and Reid, both of which were saved by Tapia. However, Ottawa extended their lead with goals from Peyton Hack in the 83rd minute and Reece Young in the 89th minute, assisted by Hack. Sterling concluded the match trailing 3-1 after Ottawa’s late period surge.

Gautreau scored one goal and took two shots, with one shot on goal. Reid contributed with an assist and also recorded a shot on target. Vilca had three shots, with one on goal, showing activity in the attacking half. In goal, Duckworth made two saves, ensuring a clean slate during her 45 minutes of play in the first half.

The Lady Warriors finished the season with a record of 2-16-1 overall and 0-13-1 in conference play.
