TEXARKANA, Texas – Sterling College Men’s Tennis took on (RV) Texas A&M – Texarkana on Thursday, March 19. The Warriors battled but were unable to create the upset, losing 6-1.
Sterling started off behind after losing the doubles point. Fernando Vargas and Kazuki Fukushima lost 6-2 to Matias Penaranda and Jose Rodrigues in the No. 1 doubles match. In No. 2 doubles play, Adam King and Rubem Bogomoltz battled hard but fell short, 6-4, to Sebastian Romanos and Fabio Viega del Trigo. Cassidy Kelly and Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma fell to Alvaro Tormo Lopez and Lawson Swain, 6-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Fukushima tried to get things going for the Warriors in singles play, getting Sterling’s sole point with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Viega del Trigo in the No. 5 singles match. Pedro Felipoff faced off against Ramonos in No. 1 singles play losing 6-1, 6-4 while Vargas went 6-3, 6-3 in a loss to Fedir Zalievskyi in the No. 2 singles match.
In No. 3 singles play, King went 6-2, 6-3 in a loss to Marc Gonzalez Molina while Bogomoltz went 6-2, 6-1 in a loss to Swain in the No. 4 singles match. Kelly closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Tormo Lopez in the No. 6 singles match.
Sterling (1-5) will take on Collin College (2-12) on Friday, March 20 in Plano, Texas.
