RICE COUNTY, Kan. — In Rice County, Nick Sowers captured 78 percent of the vote for Sheriff, with a write-in effort by Incumbent Bryant Evans, who Sowers defeated in the August primary, getting 22 percent. 3rd District County Commissioner Terry David won re-election with 55 percent of the vote to 44 for Libertarian candidate Seth Cordell.
Alicia Hommon won a three-sided race for Lyons Mayor Tuesday, getting 498 votes to 353 for Jason Beaver and 258 for incumbent Mayor Dustin Schultz.
The one incumbent Lyons City Council member to seek re-election, Debra Metzger, defeated Gabrielle Dobbins 169 to 138. Former Councilman Cecil Burdett defeated John Brundage 120 to 113 in Ward 2, and Jim Cedeno defeated Leon Boyea 133 to 84 in Ward 3.
Representative Tory Marie Blew of Great Bend took the open 33rd District, which includes areas to the west of Reno County plus Rice County, getting 81 percent of the vote over Matthew Westenfeld to replace Senator Alicia Straub who gave up the seat for an unsuccessful run for Barton County Clerk.
The Sterling City Commission race between Clinton Bundy and incumbent Stephen Wilson isn’t decided, with each candidate having 410 votes in the ballots counted last night.
Rice County Clerk Aurelia Garcia said there are 66 provisional ballots to be reviewed, along with any mail ballots that arrive by Friday.
