STERLING, Kan. — Sterling’s Old Fashioned 4th of July events kick off Wednesday evening at Sterling Lake. There are some new events this year, including a cornhole tournament at 6 at the Versa Court, and adult pickleball and kids tennis tournaments starting at 7:30 at the high school pickleball courts. They will also have the kids fishing derby, hot dog feed, home run derby, and new this year a night before street dance with Steel Skarecrow from 8-11 in front of the pool bath house… in case of rain it moves to Studio 96. They will also have a late night swim in the pool from 9-midnight. The dance and swim are free with a 4th of July button, which can be purchased through Today at both Sterling banks, Dillons, Shine and the Sterling Bulletin, they can also be purchase at the Chamber booth at the lake, and it also gets you a free meal the evening of the 4th.

LYONS, Kan. — Boomfest takes place in Lyons Thursday night, with activities starting at the Little League Fall Fields on South Douglas at 6 including live music, bounce houses, and concessions. What’s billed as the best pyro-musical firework show in central Kansas begins at dusk with music on Kicks 106.1. Related to Boomfest, the Lyons Public Golf Course will be closed off from 4 PM Wednesday through 9 AM Friday, as that is where they will be setting off the fireworks from.

ELLINWOOD, Kan. — Ellinwood will have their 4th of July celebration Thursday at the practice field next to the swimming pool.
