Virginia Lea Jonas, 93, passed away February 3, 2026 at Brookdale Assisted Living in McPherson, KS.

Virginia was born on September 4, 1932 in Harper, KS to parents Roy Gilbert and Thelma Palmer Wenger.

Virginia attended Harper grade school and graduated from Harper High School, Harper, KS in 1950.

Virginia Lea Wenger was united in marriage to Clayton Paul Jonas on November 10, 1950 in Harper, KS. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Robert Paul and Steven Ray.

Through the years Virginia worked as a homemaker and later worked with the lunch program for the USD 418 School District, McPherson, KS. Virginia was also a member of the McPherson Hospital Auxiliary and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Virginia enjoyed coffee with her friends and spending time with her family.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton Jonas; son, Steven Jonas; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Jonas; and sisters, Connie and Betty.

Virginia is survived by her son, Robert Jonas of Overland Park, KS; five grandsons, Nicolas, Matt (Angela), Jeremy (Karen), Corey (Ariel) and Timothy; five great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Wesley, Lillian, Tyler and Owen; daughter-in-law, Carol Jonas of Marion, KS; brothers, Mike and Dick; and sister, Barbara Adams.

A graveside service for immediate family only will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM at McPherson Cemetery with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating. A celebration of life will be held in early May on date to be determined.
