Terry G. Rupe, 71, passed away early in the morning of May 2, 2026. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on October 5, 1954, to R. Donald and R. Lorraine Rupe, formerly of Manhattan.
He met the love of his life, Mary Kay Hickel, in the basement of Farrell Library at Kansas State University in 1976. They were married June 3, 1978, in Hoisington, Kansas. They lived in St. Mary’s, Arkansas City, Junction City before moving to Claflin in 1995.
Terry earned his associates degrees from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, then graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and education, along with a master’s degree in administration from Kansas State University.
Throughout his career, Terry was a teacher, principal, worked for Kansas State University Extension teaching shooting sports across the state of Kansas, and coached football, basketball, golf, baseball and tennis. He also taught hunter’s education and driver’s education. Terry loved teaching children and working in education.
Survivors include Mary Kay of the home; son, Justin Rupe and wife Kristy of Claflin; daughter, Tara K. Rupe of Hutchinson; grandchildren, William and Dori Rupe; brother, Gary Rupe and wife Tina of Clearwater; nephews, Matthew and Jared Rupe; and niece, Jessica Rupe.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, R. David Rupe.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026, with family receiving guests form 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Memorials have been designated to Claflin Fire and EMS or Beaver Fire Department, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
