It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of long-time McPhersonite Tammy Clark-Johnson on July 28th, 2026, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.  Tammy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and proud member of the McPherson community.

Tammy was born on August 8th, 1972, in Moundridge, KS, to Norman Walter Clark Sr and Martha Belle Carter. She was the youngest of five children. When Tammy was about 6 years old, the family moved from Kansas to Arkansas. There, Tammy and her siblings spent time swimming in the river and playing with their family dogs. They always seemed to have animals around, which clearly stayed true into adulthood for Tammy. While in Arkansas, the family lived on a chicken farm. The family lived there for approximately three years, then moved back to Kansas. As a family of seven on one income, the children entertained themselves playing outside and just being kids. Tammy was always a daddy's girl.

Tammy wore many hats throughout her life, but of all the jobs she had, she especially loved her time as a community reporter for the McPherson News-Ledger, later bought out by The McPherson Sentinel. She enjoyed telling the stories of the people in her community and sharing the moments that brought others together. In addition to connecting with her community through her journalism, Tammy created the McPherson Community Facebook group as a place of inclusion, welcoming, and a source for aid and guidance in times of hardship.

Tammy had a kind heart and was always willing to help someone who needed it. Whether it was family, a friend, or a stranger, she made people feel welcome and cared for. She touched many lives through her kindness, compassion, and willingness to give herself.

After a long and courageous battle with her health, Tammy passed away peacefully. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. More than anything, Tammy loved her family. Her family meant everything to her, and she was happiest when they were together.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother to and survived by her four daughters, Jasmine Meyer, Jessica Meyer, Kimberly Harrison, and Brigid Johnson, and grandchildren Akira Hegglin, Aliah Hegglin, Jameson Hegglin, and Arrianna Meyer. She is also survived by her brother, David Clark (Lorindia); her nieces, Amber Clark, Samantha

Willie, and Jennifer Clark; her nephews, Justin Clark, Bryan Willie, and Dennis Willie; best friend-turned-sister Monique Curtis, and many extended family members and friends.

Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Norman Clark Jr. and Larry Clark, and her sister, Iona Clark.

To honor Tammy’s lifelong love of animals, the family requests donations to the local Cat House and McPherson Animal Shelter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion on August 8th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tammy leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love. She will be deeply missed every day, but the impact she made on her family, friends, and community will never be forgotten.
