Steven Paul Petty
1949-2026

Steven Paul “Steve” Petty, 76, passed away January 11, 2026, at Azria Health Olathe, Kansas. He was born on February 12, 1949, in Emporia, Kansas, to Lindell B. and Katharine (Marbourg) Petty. Steve married Joette (Zimmerman) Krier on July 25, 1971; while they later divorced, their union was blessed with a son. On November 28, 1986, he married Marilyn Bailey at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend. She passed on December 6, 2025.

A recent resident of Olathe coming from Great Bend, Steve was a physical education teacher for USD 428, as well as a coach and high school counselor. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima. Steve was an avid KU fan, enjoyed golf and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son, Brandon Petty and wife Megan of Olathe; grandchildren, Avery Petty and Cade Petty, both of Olathe; brother, Michael Petty of Crest Hill, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Rod Bailey and wife Martha of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Larry Bailey and wife Toni of Fisher, Texas, and Kevin Bailey and wife Aileen of Leavenworth; sisters-in-law, Alice Neidhart and husband Paul of Naperville, Illinois, Dianna Allison and husband Greg of Great Bend, and Jackie Bailey of Giddings, Texas; nieces, Kim Petty of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Erin Baldree of Manhattan, Shala Flory of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Mallory Perez of Great Bend; nephews, Nathan Bailey of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Brice Bailey of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Chris Neidhart of Downers Grove, Illinois, and Tyler Allison of Great Bend; and numerous other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister-in-law, Sharon Petty; brothers-in-law, Tony Bailey and Donald Bailey; and nephew, Mark Neidhart.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Amirtharajan Duraisamy presiding. Inurnment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North. Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, with family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Vigil service with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials have been designated to Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
