Shirley May Swan, 91, went home to the Lord on June 20, 2026, at Mennonite Friendship Community in South Hutchinson. She was born October 05, 1934, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Charles Christian and Mable Tomlin.
On April 30, 1950, she married Leonard F. Swan in Hutchinson. They shared over 64 years together before his passing.
She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Mattox & Ernie, Debbie Gideon-Long & Mark Long, Susan Kauffman & Larry and Tammy Clark & James. Her “fifth daughter” is Vicki Mitchell & Bob.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Vance Mattox, Ben Mattox, Wendy Wasinger, Kay Kennedy, LaDonna Norris, Jason Wright, Jessica Long, Greg Kauffman, Brandon Kauffman, Dawn White, Amanda Bailey, Christy McKenzie, Leonard William Swan, Michael Clark, Ashley Carson and Tiffany Ramsey. She is also survived by 35 Great Grandchildren and 17 Great-Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Amos Tomlin; sister-in-law Judy Tomlin and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Leonard Chris Swan; four brothers, Charles, Tommy, Bill, Donnie, Roger; three sisters, Imogene Scott, Phyllis Bianciella and Joann Lewis; grandsons, Mark Long Jr., Franklin Miller and great- grandson Leonard Finn Swan
Shirley graduated from Hutchinson High School. She worked for USD 308 for the breakfast and lunch program at several schools as server and kitchen manager for over 40 years. She loved working and helping children have a better day by serving them breakfast and lunch. She was involved with PTA and Block Mothers for several years to support children.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and children throughout the United States and brief visits in Canada and Mexico. The place they enjoyed the most was Branson, Mo listening to the country singers and shopping.
Visitation will be held at 4-7 p.m. on June 24, 2026, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Graveside service will be held at Fairlawn Burial Park on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter or USD 308 Lunch Program and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
