Sherrill J Ball
1944-2026

Sherrill Jeanne “Sherry” Ball, 81, of Hutchinson, died January 7,2026, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.  She was born on October 22, 1944, in McPherson, Kansas, to Burdette and Ruby (Krehbiel) Johnson.

Sherry graduated from Hutch High in 1962, attended HCC for 1 year, transferring to Kansas State University, graduating in 1966 with a BS in Home Economics and Teaching.  She taught full-time and substituted for over 40 years.  She had a lasting impact on her students, many of whom recognized her out in the community, including some of the staff at Pleasant View.

She married James “Jim” Ball on January 30, 1966, in Hutchinson at the 10th Avenue E.U.B. Church.  They celebrated 60 years of married life together.  Three sons were born to this union, David, Torrey, and Kevin.  As the boys grew, she was very involved in their activities as a Cub Scout and 4-H leader.  In 1982, Jim and Sherry started farming south of Hutchinson, raising various crops, hogs, and grass-fed cattle.  Sherry did anything that was needed to help on the farm from driving truck to pulling piglets.

Sherry loved Jesus and accepted Him as her personal Lord and Savior as a youth at church camp.  She served in many facets of ministry.  Sherry loved children, babysitting for her grandkids, neighbors, and teaching in Sunday School.  She was an avid reader, passionate about church libraries, leading the library at two different churches.  Sherry loved to travel.  Some of her most memorable trips included visiting her grandchildren, the Creation Museum & Ark, the Museum of the Bible, and a final excursion to the Holy Land in 2020.

She is survived by her beloved husband Jim, her sons – David (Jeanice) of Bentonville, AR, Torrey (Julie) of Buhler, KS, Kevin (Erin) of Annapolis, MD, her grandchildren, whom she loved very much, Doran, Oliver, Marilla, Ruby, and Betsy Anne – sisters, Christine (Vincent) Rocco, Sylvia (Dave) Warner, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her parents.

As her husband, children, and grandchildren, we are grateful for God’s gracious gift of wife, mother, and grandmother.  The hole in our hearts only serves the purpose of making Heaven sweeter as we anticipate our reunions.  May God grant us His eyes to keep this perspective and to rely upon His sovereignty!

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-7pm Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, 1219 N. Main St., Huchinson, KS.  The Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:30am, Monday, January 12th, 2026, at Living Grace Church (formerly Bethel Mennonite
Church), 256 8th Ave., Inman, KS.

The celebration of life service will be livestreamed on the Bethel Church Youtube channel or go to www.bethelinman.org for the livestream link.
