Shelley Jo Huebert, 63, died September 10, 2026, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. She was born May 26, 1963, in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of Edward Yahne and Judith Ann (Ruble) Yahne Stevenson.
Shelley graduated from Claflin High School in 1982 and later received her associate degree from Barton County Community College. She worked in telephone sales for a while, but her true calling was as a care giver, working for Sunflower Diversified and the Great Bend and Hoisington Girls Home. Her final act of giving was blessing others with the act of organ donation.
On May 18, 1983, she married Dale Demel and they were blessed with four children, Anthony, Ryan, Sean, and Nikki. They later divorced. She then met Rodney Huebert and in a whirlwind romance they were married on August 26, 2023, in Great Bend, Kansas. Rod and Shelley shared a love of traveling and spent most of their time exploring the state parks, zoos and gardens from the west to east coast. Shelley was a member of the Sedgwick Christian Church, where she shared her talents as head of the card ministry reaching out to members for all occasions. She was known as a giving soul, that family and friends always knew they could call for help or just advice. Her greatest title was that of Nana, not only to her beloved grandchildren and step grandchildren, but to many adoptive grandchildren of the heart.
She is survived by her husband Rod of the home; children, Anthony (Skye) Demel of Wilson, Ryan Demel of Bison, Sean Demel of Sedgwick, and Nikki Demel (Craig Kober) of Great Bend; stepchildren, Christina (Christopher) Means of Towanda, Amy (Russ) Wells of Goddard, and Jeremy (Cara) Huebert of Wichita; siblings, Buddy Yahne of Mineral Wells, Texas, Angie Ebeling of Great Bend, Tina Marie Leach of Bolivar, Missouri, John Stevenson of Wichita, and Brian Stevenson of Topeka; father-in-law, John Huebert of Sedgwick; five grandchildren, Erich, Clara, and Brynlee Demel, and Colt and Nora Kober; and nine step grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Gabriel, Abigail, Hannah, and Sarah Means, and Payton, Cameron, and Ella Wells, and many adopted grandchildren; and her beloved dog Maggie Mae.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Glenn Cousins.
Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Ingmire presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.
