Roger Redding, age 71, passed away peacefully at Valley Falls Health Care Center in Valley Falls, Kansas, with his brother Johnnie at his side.

Roger was born in Stidham, Oklahoma, to Johnnie Redding, Sr. and Nellie G. Redding. In 1957 at the age of three, he moved with his family to Kansas, where he grew up in the Oilfield community where his father worked. He attended school in Gridley, Kansas, and developed a lifelong love of music, often playing guitar with his high school friends.

Roger married Patricia Beyer on February 28, 1972, and the couple made their home in Gridley before later divorcing. He worked in the oil fields for several years before beginning a long career with Westinghouse, traveling across the country to work at various nuclear plants.

Music remained a central part of Roger’s life. He was gifted with the ability to play many instruments, though the guitar was always his favorite. With the support of his lifelong friend, Gene Morrow, Roger performed in numerous bands and recorded several records. In his later years, he worked alongside Gene at the local radio station, where he thoroughly enjoyed his time as a DJ.

Roger is survived by his three children: Sherry Brown, Wichita, Kansas, and her daughters Alexis and Makayla; Mark Redding (Lisa), Richland, Washington, and children Logan and Emillie; Tonia Jackson, Garnett, Kansas.

He is also survived by his brothers Ronald Redding (Carol) of Wichita Falls, Texas; Johnnie Redding, Jr. (Patricia) of Gridley, Kansas; and Michael Redding of Gridley, Kansas; his sisters Carolyn Moody and Tinnie Branscum (Jerry) of Calico Rock, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time.
