Robert Eugene "Bobby" Bunyard, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sunday April 26, 2026, in Rural Independence, Kansas. Born on April 9, 1956, in Fredonia, Kansas, Bobby lived a life deeply rooted in his community and family, leaving a legacy marked by dedication, and a passion for the outdoors.

A graduate of the West Elk High School in Howard, Kansas, Class of 1974, Bobby's educational foundation was built within the Fredonia Schools. His career was distinguished by years of dedicated service with Wilson County, where he worked as a road grader until his retirement. His commitment to his work mirrored the steadfastness with which he approached every aspect of his life.

Bobby was known for his love of hunting, fishing, trapping, and all outdoor activities. These pursuits were more than hobbies—they were ways for him to connect with family and friends during the many joyful gatherings that he treasured. His love for the outdoors was a defining hallmark of his character and brought him immense happiness.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri (Hebb) Bunyard. They shared 28 years together until Bobby's passing, He is lovingly remembered by his children: Sarah and Chris Edwards of Neodesha, Kansas; James Robert Shinkle of Independence, Kansas; Kelli and Robert Ashby of Terrell, Texas; James and Samantha McRoy of Joplin, Missouri; Miranda and Bryce Martin of Wichita, Kansas; and Kory McRoy of Independence, Kansas. The joy he found in family extends to his nineteen grandchildren, Cody, Katy, Karah, Casey, Jayci, Dominic, Brittany, Tanor, Mckenzie, Braden, Alexandria, Chaz, Bain, Hattie, Hailey, Kaden, Dakota, Korbin and KC who were a source of immense pride and happiness throughout his life.

Bobby also leaves behind his siblings, Jodee Bunyard and Jayme Bunyard, both of Fredonia, Kansas, Bonnie Lassley and Sherrie Sexton of Severy, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary (Copenhaver) Bunyard, and his brothers, Billy Bunyard, Jim Bunyard, and Toby Bunyard, whose legacies continue alongside his own in the hearts of those who knew them.

Services to honor and celebrate Bobby’s life will begin with a visitation on Friday May 1, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas. The funeral service will be held on Saturday May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Fall River United Methodist Church, followed by burial at 12:00 PM in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fall River.

Robert "Bobby" Bunyard’s legacy is one of steadfast dedication to family, and the simple joys of life spent outdoors. His memory will continue to be a blessing to those who knew and loved him.
