Rexene Kathryn (King) Weve
1935-2026

Rexene Kathryn Weve, 90, of Cherokee, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on December 5, 1935, in Anthony, Kansas, to Walter and Mary King. She grew up on her family’s farm near Waldron, Kansas, and later graduated from Amorita High School, taking with her a quiet confidence and gentle, resilient spirit that everyone who knew her came to admire.

She met the love of her life, Joe Weve, while working as the bookkeeper at an Allis-Chalmers combine dealership in Cherokee. Every time he came in for a new part, she would make her way to the counter (and pretend she understood what he needed) just to speak to him. The two married on July 29, 1962. And for the next 63 years, wherever Joe went, Rex followed.

She was the keeper of family history, remembering every birthday and milestone and faithfully recording life in her daily journals. The decades of small, ordinary moments preserved the rhythm of her family and revealed the deep love she had for them. She enjoyed working in their garden, and her garage shelves were always lined with canned vegetables and her signature sugarplum jelly. She made the best Southern comfort food, serving the same full spread for two guests as she did for a roomful of harvest hands. Rexene played piano in church for many years and taught several of her grandchildren how to play.

Rexene’s life revolved around caring for her home and the people in it. She was completely dedicated to her family—her husband, 4 children and 3 daughters-in-law (Joe Allen and wife Linda, William and wife Sherri, Cristine, and George and wife Stephanie), 10 grandchildren (Shayla, Clayton, Morgan, Blake, Timothy, Tana, Dylan, Amber, Kylee, and Raylen) and 15 great-grandchildren. Her life was anchored in her faith, and her relationship with the Lord led how she treated others—slow to anger, quick to forgive, and always humble. What a privilege it was to watch her, learn from her, and be loved by her. The heartbeat of our family. Our moral compass. And the most beautiful example of a devoted life. Family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Wulf Ast Mortuary 120 No. King Street Mt. Hope, Ks. 67108.
