1946-2026
Regina Mae Yoder, a woman of deep faith, boundless creativity, and a legendary love for bringing people together, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026 in Hesston, KS. True to her personal philosophy, *"With just a little bit of creativity, any day can become a party,"* Regina brought joy, music, and warmth to everyone she met.
Life and Family
Regina was born on July 11, 1946 in Meade, Kansas to Edward R.C. and Sara Classen, and spent her childhood years growing up in Hillsboro and Hesston, KS. She was the older sister to two siblings, Marjorie and Dale, and always held fond memories of her early years, including visiting the filling station where her father worked.
Family was the center of Regina’s world. She was the proud mother of three children: December, Terrence, and Larissa. Her legacy of love continued to grow through her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense sunshine to her life.
Regina is survived by:
● Her children: December (and Jerry) Worthington, Terrence (and Melanie) Yoder, Larissa Yoder
● Her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren
● Her siblings: Marjorie (and Lyle) Sommerfeld, Dale (and Anita) Classen
After getting married, Regina pursued further education through adult classes at Hutchinson Junior College and HUD courses. She was a hard worker who brought dedication to a variety of roles throughout her life. Her career began with waitressing and working at the A&L Turkey Plant. She later found fulfillment serving her community as a secretary at Newton Bible Church, the manager of the Christian Counseling Center in Wichita, and the manager of Hickory Homes in Hesston. Before her retirement, she served as a compassionate dietary aide.
Regina lived life with an enthusiastic spirit. As an adult, she decided to buy an accordion and taught herself to play—even passing the skill down to her son. One of her favorite memories was learning to play "Mansion Over the Hilltop," a song she fell in love with at church. Her faith was foundational, and she found great joy in attending church, worshiping, and participating in Bible study groups.
If Regina heard "a party calling," she was always ready to answer. She was famous for hosting elaborate "hanging parties" and loved organizing creative gatherings, such as her famous "backwards party" with her Bible study ladies.
An avid reader who later transitioned to enjoying audiobooks, Regina was particularly fond of the author Barbara Johnson. She was incredibly talented with her hands, spending countless hours quilting, crocheting, and sewing beautiful pieces for her family. Regina also loved playing games and cards with friends, exercising, hiking, and baking—especially her beloved homemade donuts, and decorating cakes to supplement her income.
Whether she was sitting on her swing enjoying the outdoors, dreaming of being in the mountains, or hosting a tea party, Regina was happiest when she was connecting with others. A phone call or visit from her children and grandchildren never failed to cheer her up. Regina's bright smile, musical spirit, and unforgettable hospitality leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
