Micheal Dean Evenson
1947-2026
Micheal Dean “Mike” Evenson, 78, was called home to be with the Lord on February 21,
2026, at his residence in Fredonia, Kansas. His faith was steady and his humor was a
gift to everyone fortunate enough to know him.Mike was born on July 9, 1947, in Neodesha, Kansas, to Lucile (Eaton) and Don
Evenson. A proud graduate of Fredonia High School’s Class of 1965, he went on to
serve in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1965–1971. Over the years, he lent his
time, talent, and trademark humor to many organizations, including the American
Legion, the Tri-Valley Street Rod Association, and the Fredonia Volunteer Fire
Department, where he served for ten years. A steadfast man of faith, he was a longtime
member of Buxton Christian Church. For more than 50 years, Mike worked at LaDow & Spohn Printing, proving that while
trends may change, craftsmanship, loyalty, and good jokes never go out of style.
In his younger days, Mike found joy in dirt track racing. He also loved woodworking,
restoring antique cars, and creating beauty with his hands. If you ever talked with Mike,
even for five minutes, you probably laughed, learned something, or left with one of his
famous oneliners. He possessed a quick wit, the heart of a poet, and the faith of a man
who knew exactly where he was headed.

Some of Mike’s happiest hours were spent in “the shop,” surrounded by his wife and
close friends, a good dart game, or a competitive round of backgammon.
In 1968 Mike married Jane McGinnis, with whom he welcomed two children, Dana and
Donavon. They later divorced. In 1990 he married Jamie Carlburg and embraced her
daughter, Amanda, as his own. Jamie preceded him in death in 2002. In 2005 he
married Connie Collins, who survives him at their home and who remained his partner
through every laugh, project, prayer, and chapter.

Mike is survived by his children: Dana (Randy) Stierwalt of Neodesha, Donavon
(Tempist) Evenson of Fredonia, Amanda (Dennis) Diskin of Shawnee, Kansas,
Carianne (Troy) Short of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. He also leaves behind his sister
Donna Wiltse of Wichita, 2 nephews, 12 grandchildren, and 5 greatgrandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Buxton Christian Church, a
place that nurtured Mike’s faith and community.

A memorial service honoring Mike’s life and legacy will be held at 10:00 AM on
Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Buxton Christian Church, 3254 500 Rd., Fredonia,
Kansas.
