Maurice Joseph “Mo” Schreck
1937-2026

Maurice Joseph “Mo” Schreck, 89, formerly of Great Bend, died August 4, 2026, at Legend of Hutchinson. He was born May 12, 1937, in Alsace-Lorraine, France, to Leona Schreck.

Maurice attended Ellinwood High School. He was a water well driller for over 40 years at Rosencrantz-Bemis and Clark Well and Equipment, both of Great Bend. Maurice loved spending time at his cabin and fishing at Kanopolis Lake. He enjoyed tinkering and welded many metal grills. Maurice also liked playing pool and working out at the YMCA. He was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, and attended First Congregational Church with his wife, Janet, both in Hutchinson.

In 1960, he married Charlotte Sanders, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend. They later divorced, together they raised their son, Patrick.

On August 2, 1969, Maurice married Margaret Lou Molder, in Ellinwood. They shared over 47 years of marriage; prior to her death on October 15, 2010.

On May 7, 2016, he married Janet Kay Stewart (Perry), in Hutchinson. They shared six years of marriage; prior to her death on March 20, 2022.

Maurice is survived by: his son, Patrick Schreck of Wichita; stepson, Terry Arnold of Weatherford, TX; grandsons, Curtis Klushner, Jr. of Dartmouth, and Corey Arnold of Great Bend; stepson-in-law, Curtis of Klushner, Sr. of Dartmouth; and a niece, Catharine Horner of Omaha, NE.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; spouses; stepdaughter, Donna Klushner; and siblings Agnes Schreck and John Schreck.

Parish rosary will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Church of the Holy Cross Catholic School Gymnasium, 2633 Independence Rd, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m., with Fr. Matthew Cooke officiating. Graveside service will be 3:15 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood, with Fr. Prakash Kola officiating. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Church of the Holy Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St. Hutchinson, KS 67501.
