Maureen Faber, age 66, passed away on September 14, 2026 in Wichita, KS.
She was born on January 18, 1960, in Hoisington, Kansas, the fifth of nine children born to Bernard Stos and Marcella (Oborny) Stos. She grew up on a bustling farm in Otis, KS where she learned early on the value of family unity and hard work.
Maureen’s professional journey began during her high school years at Otis-Bison High School, working at a nursing home in La Crosse, KS. Following graduation, she and her sister, Kristi, moved to Wichita to pursue their careers. It was there that Maureen dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medication Aide, and Medical Records Clerk in many nursing homes over the years. The residents she cared for loved her dearly, drawing comfort from her gentle nature, attentive listening, and deep respect for their dignity. She held their hands and told them silly jokes with such cheer and genuine love for each and every one of them. She was an inspiration to many to pursue a career in healthcare but especially her daughter Ashley. This move to Wichita led to her meeting her husband, Paul, whom she married on April 5, 1986. Together, they shared 40 years of marriage.
Above all, Maureen’s heart belonged to her family. She was a devoted wife and immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, celebrating their every accomplishment. Maureen loved her sisters deeply. Her siblings held her in the highest regard, universally respecting her as their mother’s favorite daughter. When their youngest sister, Colleen, suffered a stroke, Maureen's round-the-clock care and devotion proved to be a vital part of why Colleen is recovered today. Her hands were rarely still; drawn to anything green, she poured her love into gardening, sewing, and beading, found peace caring for her chickens, and deeply treasured time spent baking with her grandchildren and completing puzzles with her sisters.
To know Maureen was to know a woman of warmth, and love. Clever and practical, she was always ready to jump in and help with any situation, always knowing the perfect solution. Her family will miss her laugh and smile dearly. Humble and kind, Maureen leaves behind the legacy of an angel on earth. She is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Ashley (Jeromy) and Brian; grandchildren, Barrett, Mila and Amie; her siblings, Mike (Jackie), Bernadine (Ken), Pat (Sandra), Rita (Ryan), Kristina (Bill), Colleen (Mike), David, and Kelly; and many other beloved family members and friends.
Recitation of the rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colwich, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a college fund for Maureen’s grandchildren.
