With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Craig. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched.
She passed away peacefully after a short stay at Saint Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas, on March 7, 2026. Mary was born to Alean and William Shults on September 25, 1948, in Iola, Kansas. She married Bobby Craig on May 28, 1977, in Humboldt, Kansas.
Mary was a cherished part of her large family. She is survived by her sons, Russell Craig and James (Stephanie) Craig; her siblings, sister Darlene Totman, brother Ralph (Mary Ann) Shults, and sister Rita (Don) Meyer; and seven grandchildren: Andrew, Zachary, Christopher, Emily, Anthony, Alexander, and Jacob.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alean Shults; her sisters Viola Powers, Rosie Stierwalt, and Reba Stewart; her brother Charles Shults; her husband, Bobby Craig; and her daughter, Kristi Rodriguez.
A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on March 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Countryside Funeral Home in Chanute, Kansas.
Mary will be fondly remembered for her love of fried chicken and fried green tomatoes, her steady coffee drinking, her competitive spirit during games of Yahtzee, and the tender moments she shared with her family and her beloved dog, Scooby.
Mary was a generous and dedicated woman who loved deeply. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
