Marla Kay Massingill, 67, life-long resident of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at her home following a battle with cancer.
Marla was born September 3, 1958, in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Edwin Jewel and Blondelle Charlene (Little) Weast. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1976 and earned a degree in Dietary Management from Washburn University in Topeka.
Marla worked at the Peter Pan ice cream store in Burlington before being employed in the kitchen at the Golden Age Lodge in Burlington. She was then employed as a cook and dietary manager at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington for over 20 years. She was a cook for the Olathe School District before finishing her career as a baker at Burlington High School for over 10 years.
Marla and George Andy Massingill were married on September 20, 1986, in Burlington, and shared nearly 40 years of marriage. They had attended the Burlington Christian Church.
Marla enjoyed shopping, especially for shoes and purses. But what she enjoyed most of all was the time spent with her family. She loved the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother -in-law Janie Massingill, sister-in-law Carolyn Ables; and brothers-in-law, Lee VanTassel, George Croan and Ray Massingill.
She leaves her husband George; her children, Shawna Muehe (Michael), Gardner, KS, Ryan Massingill (Annalise), Emporia, KS, and Ethan Massingill, Burlington; six grandchildren, Kaylee, Parker, Trinity, Alex, Adeline, and Oaklee Kay; sisters, Patty VanTassel, Gardner, KS, Lynn Smith, Tennessee, and Lissa Russo, Burlington; her brother, Paul Weast, Bonner Springs, KS; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 15, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery northeast of Burlington.
