Lloyd Allen “Chopper” Johnson, 70, passed away peacefully September 20, 2026, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born March 2, 1956, in Great Bend, to Dean & Bobby (Parish) Johnson.

Chopper married Kathy Olson February 29, 1980, in Great Bend. They built a beautiful life together for 46 years. He was a hard-working man and found his career as a rough neck for Gabert and Jones Drilling, transitioned to Pickrell Drilling, then was employed for Murray Casing Crew. He switched careers and worked for Amerine Utilities before settling at GBI. Chopper loved to go fishing and hunting and bring food to the table. Above all else, he treasured spending time with his grandkids and creating memories.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Kathy Johnson; sons, Scott Johnson and his wife Jamie of Great Bend, Shawn Mangold and his husband, Robert of Burlington, Colo.; step-daughter, Lisa Smith of Larned; daughter-in-law, Candice Johnson of Great Bend; sisters, Jill Johnson of Great Bend, Alethea Peschka and her husband Joseph Sr. of Great Bend; grandchildren, Kimberly Rosenbohm, Alexandria Synder, Maleia R. Johnson, Zayden S. Johnson, Hunter L. Johnson, Kolton G. Johnson, Malakai K. Mangold; great-grandchildren, Faith, Zoey, and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie Johnson; and brother, Kermit Johnson.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend with Pastor Tim Singleton presiding. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, in Great Bend. Visitation is available from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2026, with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials may be made out to Cheyenne Bottoms or Muscular Dystrophy Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.
