1941-2026
Linda Ann Clark, 84, of Independence, KS passed away at Labette Health, in Parsons, Kansas on February 4, 2026.
Linda was born April 2, 1941 in McPherson, KS, daughter of Clifford and Beverly Brake. As a child, Linda moved throughout the Midwest before settling near Wayside, KS where she attended High School, graduating in 1959. Linda married Derrill Unruh from Independence in 1963, they had a son, Zach, and later divorced.
Linda married Mike Clark on January 3, 1985. This marriage brought together two families, Linda’s son, Zach and Mike’s daughters, Jennifer, Sarah, and Elizabeth. Linda and Mike were inseparable until Mike’s death in 2016. They enjoyed a full life of dancing, laughing, and traveling together.
After living in Dallas and Iola as a young adult, Linda returned to Independence in 1974, and spent the majority of her career with Arco Pipeline working as an Executive Assistant and in Travel Management until her retirement in 1994. Following retirement, Linda enjoyed playing golf, attending custom car shows, and traveling with Mike.
Linda was a devoted grandmother and took great joy in watching her grandchildren grow into young adults. If you met Linda, even casually, there is a good chance she would tell you about her love for her dogs. She enjoyed all things outdoors, from her time riding horses as a girl, to gardening throughout her life.
Linda is survived by her son Zach Unruh (Melissa) of Independence, her stepdaughters Jennifer Hastings of Tulsa, OK and Elizabeth Clark of Phoenix, AZ, her brother Terry Brake (Connie) and family of Caney, KS, and seven grandchildren. Linda is preceded in death by her husband Mike Clark, her father Clifford Brake (Irene), her mother Beverly Brake, her sister Sharon Shippy (Butch), and her stepdaughter Sarah Clark.
The family will receive friends starting at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 14 at Zion Lutheran Church, Independence, with a Celebration of Life Gathering following at the VFW, Independence at 5:00 pm. A burial service will be held at the Havana Cemetery at 10:00 am, Monday, February 16. Arrangements are made by Countryside Funeral Home. The family has suggested that memorials be offered to the local Independence AWOL chapter.
