Lawrence (Larry) Edward McKibbin, age 81, died peacefully with family by his side on August 23, 2026, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Larry was born in Dodge City on February 16, 1945, the son of William (Bill) and Julia (Naylor) McKibbin. He graduated from Jetmore High School in 1963. He then attended Kansas State University, receiving a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1968. Following college, he returned to the family farm in Jetmore to be a lifelong farmer and rancher. He farmed and ranched until his final days, which is a testament to his strength, toughness, work ethic, and at times stubbornness. A life dedicated to farming and ranching didn’t leave much time for hobbies, but he enjoyed watching football (especially the Wildcats and Chiefs) and professional wrestling, and sharing a cup of coffee and conversation with anyone that would listen. He also cherished his grandfather roles of “Poopsie”, “Grandad”, and “Grampy”. Larry will be forever missed and remembered for his frugal nature, ability to fix almost anything, wit, sense of humor, and ornery personality.
His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda; his children Wendy McKibbin of Oxford, Alabama, Bill (Chillon) McKibbin of Alexandria, Minnesota, Sarah (Lee) Ankrom of Topeka, Nick Wiggins of Jetmore, and Dawn Wiggins of De Soto; his grandchildren Kaelyn and Grahm McKibbin of Alexandria, Minnesota, Wyatt and Will Ankrom of Topeka, and Braelyn Butler of De Soto; and his sister Lana Frank of Salina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carole Ann.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Jetmore Methodist Church, Jetmore, Kansas with Pastor Maria Grimm presiding. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. A luncheon will be provided immediately following the service. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Jetmore. Public viewing will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.
