Lawanda "Jeanne" (Black) Bolinger, 102, died peacefully on May 24, 2026, at the Cheney Golden Age Home. She was born on March 31, 1924, to Farrell and Irene (O'Brien) Black, the oldest of 10 children. Jeanne attended Morton Center Country School and Cheney High School, graduating in 1941. She then attended American Business College in Wichita, Kansas. Jeanne lived in Wichita for 8 years, working at Cudahy Packing Plant and later Western Newspaper Union.
She married Cecil Bolinger on November 26, 1949, and they lived on the family farm south of Cheney, where they raised their 3 children. Jeanne was a hardworking farmer's wife who loved to cook and play cards with family and friends. She was known for her warm hospitality, gentle spirit, strong faith, and the steady love that held her family together. She was an active member of the Trinity United Christian Church. After Cecil's passing in 1978, Jeanne moved to Cheney in 1980 and worked part-time at the Family Shop, Stoehr's Electric and World Child Care Center.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Farrell and Irene; her husband, Cecil; brothers, Darrell and Donald Black; sister, Evelyn Dewey; brothers-in-laws, Dale Hosey, Gayle Gregory, Ted Duane Dewey, David Rosenhagen, Terry Alloway; and sister-in-law, Alice Black. She is survived by her children: Van (Jacque) Bolinger of Cheney, Sharen (Jeff) Young of Cheney and Karen (Larry) Schlecht of Derby. Grandchildren: Butch (Jana) Hill, Justin (Jayna) Bolinger, Jaime (Scott) Werner, Josie (Justin) Batt, Austin Young, Ashley (Stephen) Granberry, Aaron (Anna) Young, Kari (Brian) Harris, Katie (Donnie) Holtzinger, Eric (Kelsy) Schlecht; 28 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Virginia Hosey, Barbara Gregory, Patsy Rosenhagen, Sheryl (Larry) Bowser, Sue Alloway, David Black and sister-in-law, Eileen Black.
A family visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 and a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, both at the Trinity United Christian Church 416 N. Washington in Cheney.
