1954-2026
Kathleen Elizabeth (Etheridge) Steiner, 71, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, February 28, 2026, surrounded by the love she spent decades giving to others. She was born June 2, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to George Etheridge and Ruth (Boyd) Etheridge.
Kathleen’s childhood included many moves before her family eventually settled in Inman, Kansas. She graduated from Inman High School and, on September 13, 1971, married the love of her life, David Steiner, Jr. Together they built nearly 55 years of marriage rooted in faith, family, and steady devotion. They made their home near Canton, Kansas, where they shared a life marked by quiet strength and enduring commitment.
Over the years, Kathleen worked in a variety of roles, including as a secretary at Canton Elementary School and later as a florist in McPherson. Whether in an office or arranging flowers, she brought thoughtfulness and care to her work.
For the past 40 years, Kathleen was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Bible Church. Her service was constant and heartfelt. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, shared Bible stories with children during Sunday services, sang in a quartet, created floral arrangements that beautified the altar and organ, and quietly helped maintain the church by cleaning. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about; it was something she lived in small, steady acts of service.
Kathleen found joy in reading and working with flowers. She appreciated beauty and found deep joy in life’s small, everyday pleasures. She also carried a beautiful, easy laugh that could lighten a room and made others feel immediately at home in her presence.
Above all, Kathleen was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy, and she gave them steady encouragement, warmth, and unwavering support throughout their lives.
She is survived by her devoted husband, David Steiner, Jr.; her daughter, Michelle Neel and husband Kevin, and grandchildren Kyle and Kaitlyn of Kingwood, Texas; her son, Mike Steiner and wife Katrina; and her brother, Wayne Etheridge of Waurika, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth (Boyd) Etheridge; her brother, Wesley Etheridge; and her sister, Linda Larson.
Kathleen’s legacy is found not in grand gestures but in decades of faithfulness, kindness, and service. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services are pending and will be announced by Moundridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Good Shepherd Hospice of Newton in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
