1944-2026
Our beloved mother Judy Mae Smith, 82, took her final breath on May 13, 2026, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, KS. While Mom was always known for being late for all family events, she exited at a pace that took all our breath away.
She was born on February 18, 1944, in Tacoma, WA, and was the daughter of Roy Dean and Gladys Virline (Prather) Chrest.
Judy graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962. She worked at CertainTeed and after retiring for 9 months, and instead of pursuing hobbies, decided she needed to go back to work. Â She worked for Walmart for 10 years and finally got retirement right the second time around. Judy was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Marvin Smith; ex-husbands, Edwin “Ed” Ewing and Cecil “Tom” Litchfield; brother, Jack Chrest and a granddaughter, Sarah Vanlerburg-June.
Judy is survived by the true loves of her life, her children, Robert D. “J.R.” (Mary) Ewing, Sheri A. Ewing, Sheila M. (Augie) Esguerra; and Sonya L. (Mike) Goalden; sister, Karen Hyson; brother, Jerry Chrest; 11 grandchildren, Laura (Dustin) Dechant, Michelle Ewing, Ryan (Kathy) Ewing, Bethany (Jason) Plucinik, Joshua Ewing, Tara (Joshua) Hearne, Alicia Porubsky, Cody (Sara) Goalden, Jacob (Spencer) Goalden, Kaitlynn (Tyler) Jones, and Darion (Bailey) Esguerra; and 23 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be announced in late summer. Arrangements and care entrusted to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
