Joy Louise Redding
1961-2026

Joy Louise Redding, 64, of Gridley, Kansas, passed away late Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. Joy left this world surrounded by the love she so freely gave to others.

Joy was born November 5, 1961, at Eureka, KS, the daughter of Alva “Pete” and Trenna (Puckett) Watts. She and her family made their home 10 miles south of Gridley. She attended grade school in Madison and in the 7th grade transferred to the Gridley Schools. She graduated from Gridley High School in 1980.

On June 20, 1981, she and Michael Gene Redding were married at the United Methodist Church in Gridley. They became the parents of a son and a daughter, Brandon and Jessica. They made their home in Gridley.

Joy was truly one of the kindest souls to ever walk this earth. She had a remarkable way of putting others first, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, or anyone in need within her community. Her generosity and compassion touched countless lives. Joy was the head cook for the Gridley schools for 29 years, served on the Gridley Senior Center Housing Authority, and was active in organizing the Gridley 4th of July Celebrations and the Hive Youth Center in Gridley. Joy enjoyed camping and fishing at several local lakes with her family and close “camping friends” over the years. In addition, Joy enjoyed watching all sports and attended as many of her grandchildren’s’ sporting events and activities.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Trenna Watts.

She leaves behind Mike, her husband of more than 44 years; her son, Brandon Redding and wife Kelly, Shawnee, KS; her daughter, Jessica Davis and husband Jared, Emporia, KS; three grandchildren, Grady and Gavin Davis and Everett Redding; her father, Pete Watts, Yates Center, KS; her brother, Alan Watts and wife Janet, Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Teresa Young and husband Tom, Lansing, KS, and Jody Owens and husband Scott, Yates Center, KS; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow at the Gridley Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 1:30 P.M. Saturday until funeral time at Jones Funeral home.
