1959-2026
In loving memory of Joseph Hayes “Joe” McCarthy, born July 20, 1959, in Joliet, Illinois. He passed away March 21, 2026, at his home in Hoisington, Kansas.
Joe is survived by his only daughter, Stephanie McCarthy of Ellis, whom was his greatest pride and joy. She wanted others to know: “There are no words that could ever fully capture my dad’s life. He was the one who always knew what to say, who had a natural gift with words. To know my dad was to love him. His humor, his larger-than-life personality, and his unforgettable laugh made him someone you could never forget. He was a brilliant man, with a deep knowledge of so many things, always teaching and inspiring those around him. He had a passion for music, photography, writing, and riding motorcycles – interests that reflected his free spirit and creative soul. Those are the things I will hold onto and remember most. He was the light of my life, and his absence leaves a space in my heart that can never be filled. My dad was truly larger than life, and the void he leaves behind is immeasurable.
“Dad, I can only hope that when you passed, the motorcycle of your dreams was waiting for you, your lungs were healed, and you went on the ride of a lifetime into the most beautiful sunset you’ve ever seen. He will be deeply missed and loved.”
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; and two brothers, Dan McCarthy and Wes McCarthy.
Per Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be any formal services. Memorials have been designated to the Joe McCarthy Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
