Jerry Leon Coltrane
1938-2026
Jerry Leon Coltrane, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Born on February 23, 1938, in Humboldt, Kansas, Jerry was the son of the late Arthur Oscar Coltrane and Evelyn Wade Coltrane. From an early age, he developed a deep love for the family farm, where he found great joy in working the land, it was the place where he felt most at home.
In 1960, Jerry married the love of his life, Roberta “Ann” Hanson Coltrane. Together, they built a beautiful life in Elmhurst, Illinois. Their marriage spanned over six decades, a true testament to partnership and commitment. Ann preceded him in death in October 2025.
Jerry built a successful career in Finance and Marketing with Amoco Oil, now known as BP. His work not only supported his family but also allowed them to explore the country together. Jerry and Ann raised their two daughters while traveling extensively across the United States, creating cherished memories along the way. Their family adventures often included weeks-long road trips and camping excursions. By the time their daughters graduated high school, they had visited every state west of the Mississippi River except Oregon and Washington.
Jerry was a fierce protector of those he loved. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him immense pride and joy. Known for his fun yet dry sense of humor, Jerry had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Jerry was also a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid planner who delighted in mapping out travels around the globe, visiting countries such as England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Canada. He was wonderfully intelligent, practical, and skilled with his hands, an accomplished carpenter who took pride in his craftsmanship. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and relaxing with his favorite beer.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Tricia (Ben) Balingit and Sherry (Phil) Philbin; his adored grandchildren, Alex (Lauren) Balingit, Brett (Camilla) Balingit, and Brandon Balingit; and four treasured great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Carol Olson, Jo Ann Clum, and Doug (Cheryl) Coltrane; his sister-in-law, Susan (Mark) Picker; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jerry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his wit and his devotion to family.
