Jack Leon Cole, 92, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at Pinnacle Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Salina, Kansas, while under the compassionate care of hospice.

Born on August 7, 1933, in Macksville, Kansas, Jack lived a life defined by service, hard work, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. He was a man who never met a stranger. His warm smile, genuine heart, and gift for conversation made everyone feel welcome, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jack was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his family was the center of his world. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them and offering unwavering love, guidance, and support throughout their lives.

Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was inducted through the Kansas Military District in June 1956, served at Fort Bliss, Texas, and was honorably discharged in June 1962. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life and reflected the honor and integrity with which he lived.

Following his military service, Jack built an outstanding career in sales. He began as an outside salesman with the Fuller Brush Company before spending more than 30 years as a salesman with Colloday Hardware in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was known for his infectious smile, friendly personality, and exceptional customer service. Jack never knew a stranger and had an incredible ability to make everyone feel like an old friend.

Outside of work, Jack found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Horses, hunting, and fishing were not simply hobbies—they were a way of life. Throughout the years, he shared countless horseback rides, hunting trips, and fishing adventures with his family and friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He took great pride in mentoring young people at community horse gatherings, helping organize local horse events, and introducing his children to the values, friendships, and traditions that came with them. His love for the outdoors was rooted in spending time with those he cared about most, and the stories from those adventures remained some of his favorite conversations throughout his life.

Even in his later years, Jack's passion for fishing never faded. Thanks to the kindness and dedication of his friends, he continued enjoying fishing until the end of his life. Memories of fishing, hunting, and days spent on horseback brought him immeasurable happiness and remained close to his heart. His love for the outdoors was as much a part of who he was as his love for carving, and the friendships built through those shared experiences became one of the greatest blessings of his life.

While the outdoors shaped much of Jack's life, so did his remarkable gift for woodcarving. Blessed with extraordinary talent and a patient heart, he transformed extraordinary pieces of wood into remarkable works of art that became treasured keepsakes for many throughout the community. His carvings reflected not only his craftsmanship but also his creativity, patience, and love for creating something meaningful with his hands.

His passion extended beyond creating his own carvings. For many years, Jack generously volunteered his time teaching woodcarving to his friends at the Salina Senior Center, where he mentored countless aspiring carvers, sharing not only his knowledge but also his patience, encouragement, and love for the craft.

In addition to his professional and artistic accomplishments, Jack devoted himself to serving his community. He proudly served on the Board of Education for the Fowler School District and faithfully served on the board of the Methodist Church in Fowler, Kansas. His leadership, integrity, and willingness to give back reflected the values he carried throughout his life.
