Gladys Joy Dodds
1933-2026

Gladys J. Dodds, 93, passed away on April 21, 2026 at Kansas City Hospice House. She was born on April 3, 1933, at Parkerville, KS, the daughter of John C. Fowler, Sr. and Eula (Thompson) Fowler. She attended Haven High School and graduated in 1951 as Valedictorian of her class.

She began her banking career at the Haven State Bank in September 1959, as secretary to the bank president, worked as teller, bookkeeper, was promoted to cashier and later to Vice- President, which position she held until her retirement in 1996. She also was a member of the Board of Directors, and later on the Advisory Board. During her 37 years at the bank, she was active in the regional chapter of the National Association of Bank Women, serving on various committees and also president of the organization.

Gladys became a member of Haven Baptist Church in 1951 and served in various ministries of the church during that time. She became involved in politics by serving as Haven Township Republican Committee Woman for 25 years. She served as Supervising Judge of the local election board for 15 years. She was elected to a 2-year term as Vice-Chairman of the Reno County Republicans, during which time she was responsible for bringing Senator Bob Dole to Haven to participate in the Fall Festival and also a presentation at the High School. She was a charter member of the Haven Chamber of Commerce and served as Vice-President for the year in 1997. She obtained her license and was active as a real estate agent until her retirement from the bank. She was the local coordinator for the American Red Cross blood drives when they were hosted by Haven Baptist Church. After retiring from the bank, she served ten years as Treasurer for the City of Haven.

On November 21, 1953, Gladys was married to Buck Stewart, they later divorced.

Gladys was married to Floyd C. Dodds on March 11, 1995, he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Jon R. Stewart of Derby, KS, daughter, Sandra Stewart of Gardner, KS; grandchildren, Kellen Stewart of Olathe, KS, Micah (Mary) Reece of Atchison, KS, and Jeremiah Reece of Gardner, KS; great-grandchildren, Jack Wylie, Westin Wylie, Mason Reece and Max Reece.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; her sisters, Irene James and Joanna Shuyler; brother, John C. Fowler, Jr.; and granddaughter, Alison Stewart.

Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, at Ott Funeral Home, Haven, KS. Funeral Service will be 11:00am, Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Haven Baptist Church. Cremation will follow, with private family inurnment at a later date in Laurel Cemetery, Haven.
