Floyd Keith Webster
1935-2026

Floyd Keith Webster was born on April 11, 1935, in Lebanon, Missouri.  He passed away on Sunday, March 8, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, surrounded by family.

After serving as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956, Keith continued his commitment to service by joining both the VFW and the American Legion. He went on to build a long and dedicated career as an electrician at Sonoko Paper Works (formerly known as the Packaging Corporation). Throughout his tenure, he was an active member of United Papermakers International 1350, where he served as Union President for several years. One of his proudest accomplishments was spearheading the establishment of a retirement fund for employees—a legacy that benefited generations of workers. His efforts directly resulted in improved financial security for dozens of employees, many of whom expressed their heartfelt gratitude to him upon his retirement. Keith’s leadership and advocacy left a lasting mark on his colleagues and the company.

He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; Brother – Gerald (Joyce) Webster of Hutchinson. Children: Brian (Lisa) Webster of Hutchinson, Janet (Dan) Schnurr of Sterling, and Dan Webster of Neosho Rapids. Grandchildren: BreAnne (Patrick) Edwards of Hutchinson, Becky (Josh) Flax of DeSoto Kansas; Ashley (Joshua) Stringfellow of Sterling; Dallas (Julia) Schnurr of Garden Plain; Aspen Schnurr of Haven.  Great Grandchildren: Noah and Grayson Drinnen, Ellie and Brooklyn Edwards, Jasper, Kye and Jade Flax, and Hallie, Brynlie and Jackson Schnurr, as well as numerous (described by family as “boatloads”) of nieces and nephews. Surviving Sisters-in Law: Betty Webster of Cheney, and Kathy Webster of Cunningham.

Preceding Keith in death were:  Brothers: James, Ed and Richard.  Sisters: Dorothy Sherman, Elsie Dodson, Jessie McKinney, Mary Backlin, Edna Shumate, Patsy Gage; Beloved Nephew (more like a brother) Jimmy Webster of Penalosa.

Keith was the sixth of eleven siblings.  He was the first of his family to be born in a hospital.  At age 13, Keith and his family moved from Missouri to Langdon Kansas.  He met the love of his life, Betty Rae Fisher in Turon, Kansas. He and Betty married on April 12, 1957, at Turon.  They welcomed three children, Brian Keith, Dan Eugene, and Janet Sue.

Keith made a lasting impression on everyone he met.  He loved talking to people and made many friends through the years.  He loved having family and friends over for visits, and no matter how long they had stayed, his parting words as they were leaving were always “What’s your hurry? You just got here!”.

Among Keith’s greatest joys in life was spending quality time with his family. He especially treasured the fishing and camping trips they shared together. He often recalled these outings as the best days of his life, filled with laughter and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by loved ones. Many memorable days were spent journeying with his siblings and their families, traveling together to various lakes throughout Kansas, usually in a long caravan—a procession of pick-up trucks with overhead campers and boats in tow. Over time, the small campers were replaced by larger RVs, but the spirit of adventure and togetherness remained unchanged.  Water skiing and tubing were among the favorite activities at the lake. Some family members fondly recall gripping the tube handles with white-knuckled determination as Keith steered the boat, taking sharp turns and sending them bouncing across the wake.  Despite their nerves, everyone ended up smiling, thankful for Keith’s playful spirit and the unforgettable memories they created together.  But the number one activity at the lake was fishing.  Keith along with other family members, were original members of the Kansas Walleye Association, participating in many tournaments and winning their share of them as well. He taught all his grandkids to fish, and they cherish the memories of the great times they spent with grandpa at the lake.  With the winnings of one fishing tournament, Keith and Betty traveled in their RV on an extended road trip through Alaska.  They also took a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Israel to see the Promised Land, returning in January 1991, just prior to the start of Desert Storm.
