Florene M Krehbiel
1935-2026

The Lord called Florene Krehbiel home January 28, 2026. She was born April 4, 1935, to Herman and Viola (Graber) Schrag in Hutchinson, Kansas.

On September 6, 1953, she married Sam Krehbiel of Castleton at First Mennonite Church near Pretty Prairie.  Her passions were her faith, family, and helping Sam operate the ranch. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Florene graduated from Pretty Prairie high school and then went on to graduate from Salt City Business College. Later in life, she graduated from Rhema Bible College.  She briefly worked at Farmers Bank in Yoder.  Florene was co-owner of SK Ranch with Sam, being active in the cattle business all her life and a savvy businesswoman. For years she was a 4-H club leader, member of Pretty Prairie study club and active in polio survivors’ group.  Being a member of First Mennonite Church, she served in many ways, including pianist, foods committee chair, and youth leader with Sam. She also hosted prayer and Bible study meetings. Florene was instrumental in hosting the Prairie round-up for 20 years at Sam and her special place, “The Bluffs”.

In 1993, they were awarded the Reno County farm family award and in 2008 they received the Reno County cattleman‘s lifetime achievement award.

Florene was proceeded in death by her parents, Herman and Viola Schrag; her husband, Sam Krehbiel; and her sister, Donna Wedel.  She is survived by two daughters, both of Pretty Prairie, Debbie Siebert (Larry) and Pat Cramton (Gary).  Son, Kim Krehbiel and wife, Pam (Bell) of Pratt.

Grandchildren, Leslie Siebert, Clark Siebert, Clint (Kerry) Cramton, Christy (Corey) Wendler, Carmen (Andy) Clark, Carly (Michael) Begley, Melissa (Ty) Rebel, David (Lauren) Krehbiel, Bryce (Lexi) Krehbiel and 16 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be February 6 from 9:00-7:00 with family present 5:00-7:00 at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson. Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026, at First Mennonite Church, 1718 W. Pretty Prairie Rd., Pretty Prairie, with Pastor James Blake officiating. Burial will follow in Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church or Prairie Sunset Home, both of Pretty Prairie, in care of Elliott Mortuary 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
