Donna Jean JohnsonChanute, KS

Donna Jean (Smith) Johnson, 92, departed this life for Glory on the morning of August 25, 2026.

Born April 5, 1934, in Topeka, KS., to F. Eddie and Beatrice Katherine Smith, Donna grew up in Topeka and graduated high school there.

On June 28, 1953, she married Gene Francis Johnson and raised 4 sons, Michael, Gary, Randy, and Robert.  In June of 1962, the family moved to Chanute and Donna lived in the same house for 64 years.  She was also a 64-year member of First Baptist Church.

Donna worked as a bookkeeper for Cablevision of Chanute, and then from the mid-70s thru the late 1990s she became known locally as "The Cake Lady". She made cakes for any occasion for anyone who requested one. Birthdays, graduations, holidays, weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, anniversaries, or just because.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, her husband Gene, sons Gary and Randy, daughter-in-law Clarice, and granddaughter Sarah.  She is survived by sons Michael and Robert, grandchildren Jason and Jennifer, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, and a whole host of friends.

Services to be Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in The First Baptist Church Good News Center, with the family greeting friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time.

Cremation will take place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home.

Memorials are requested to Shriner's Hospital and may be sent to funeral home.
