Donald “Don” Lee Wiens
1947-2026

Donald “Don” Lee Wiens, 78, died March 9, 2026, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, KS. He was born August 20, 1947, in Newton, KS, to Jacob Waldimeer and Helene Ruth (Dyck) Wiens.

Don achieved an associate’s degree at Hutchinson Community College after graduating from Newton High School. Don worked tirelessly for 31 years as a machinist at Master Machine Tools in South Hutchinson, KS, and also for Motivational Tubing in Newton, KS.

Don was always happy when he was outdoors riding dune buggies, going to dirt track races, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed working on vehicles and building things. He was always a busy man.

He married Deloise Ann Funk February 7, 1969, in Hillsboro, KS. Don and Deloise devoted their lives to each other and raising their family.

Don is survived by: his wife of over 57 years, Deloise Wiens of Hutchinson; sons, Nathan Wiens and Andrew Wiens both of Hutchinson; and grandchildren, Tanner Wiens and Ryker Sperman- Wiens.

To honor Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27th, 2026, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Rd. Hutchinson, KS. The service will be livestreamed by the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mennonite Central Committee or First Mennonite Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
