Darlene LundbergMcPherson, KS

Darlene (Becker) Lundberg, 90, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by family at The Cedars in McPherson. Darlene was born on August 17, 1935 to Abram J.C. and Lizzie (Becker) at the family farm between Galva and Moundridge. She was the youngest of nine children.

Darlene attended grade school at South Union and graduated from Moundridge High School in 1953.

For a number of years, Darlene worked at Duckwall’s in McPherson and later was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. While working and living in McPherson, she met a handsome man from Roxbury. On July 26, 1958, Darlene was united in marriage to Robert Lundberg in Moundridge, KS. They were blessed with three children, Kevin, Gina and Julie. After living in Roxbury for a short period of time, they moved to a farm NW of Roxbury where they lived for 32 years before moving to McPherson in 1992. Bob and Darlene were married for 67 years.

While on the farm, Darlene was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking and, being married to a Swede, she learned to make Swedish foods for Christmas with her mother-in-law as her teacher. Darlene baked many tea rings, rye bread and kringler for the Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers which her daughters were members of. She also was a seamstress making many articles of clothing over the years.

While the family was young, they enjoyed time together camping and taking family vacations. After purchasing a Carriage 5th wheel trailer, Bob and Darlene joined the Carriage Travel Club and The Wheat State Campers and traveled to many of the national rallies and a lot of local campouts. They also enjoyed spending winters in South Texas in their retirement years. During this time, they met many people who became very good friends.

For their 50th wedding anniversary, their family treated them to a Caribbean cruise. She enjoyed playing games with family and friends. Over time, Darlene became a big KU and Chiefs fan.

Darlene was a member of Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson, KS.

Survivors include her children, Kevin (Cheryl) Lundberg of Spring Hill, KS, Gina (Jon) Piles of Allen, TX, and Julie (Dallas) Huber of Edwards, MO; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Willie) Johnson of Bel Aire, KS, Patricia (Larry) Weibert of Lindsborg, KS, sister-in-law, Barbara Roe of McPherson, KS; five grandchildren, Tara (David) Phillips, Courtney (Mathew) Hughes, Evan Piles, Shelby (Zach) Oller and Rachel (Austin) Newsome; six great-grandchildren, Luke, Caroline, Etta, Elias, Leo and Callan; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, brothers Louie Becker, Allen Becker, Herbert Becker, Melvin Becker, Ernest Becker and sisters Esther Schmidt, Ada Jantz and Mildred Becker.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Thursday, August 6th at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, KS. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 7th at 10:00 am at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury, KS, with Pastor Jeremy Bower officiating.
