Carl T Lewis
1923-2026

Carl T. Lewis, 102, of South Hutchinson, died March 24, 2026, at Mennonite Friendship Communities. He was born March 31, 1923, in Greencastle, MO, to Ira Truman and Eva (Mahoney) Lewis.

During World War II, Carl served honorably for over two years in the Army as Staff Sergeant. He was a Purple Heart Medal recipient and received a bronze star for his services.

On February 14, 1946, he married Margene V. Glass, in Hutchinson. They shared 43 years of marriage before her death February 17, 1989. He then married Vada O’Hara Epperson on April 2, 1991, in Partridge. They shared nearly 24 years of marriage before her death on February 19, 2015.

Carl worked at Ark Valley Co-Op where he hauled eggs. He also worked at Cargill for some time. Carl was a nature lover. He thoroughly enjoyed camping in his RV with his family and the solitude found in fishing. Carl would spend many hours in the garden where he loved to plant and maintain his crops.  He was a devoted football and baseball fan, particularly loyal to the Royals.

Carl is survived by: children, Charles Lewis of South Hutchinson and Linda (Wayne) Henderson of Partridge; stepdaughter, Patti (Steve) Epperson Yust of Sylvia; siblings, Herb Lewis of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and June (Bill) Christy of Socorro, New Mexico; grandchildren, Daniel (Stacey) Crotts of Hutchinson, Jeremy (Frida) Crotts of Vaasa, Finland, Ashleigh (Clint) Harris of Hutchinson, Matt (Yadi) Henderson of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Taryn Bergen of Hesston, Kerry (Lisa) Moore of Riley, Sean (Tammie) Moore of Hutchinson, Corey (Courtney) Eales of Hutchinson, Shelly (Mike) Todd of Baldwin City, Sherry (Terry) VanBuren of Hutchinson, Robert (Jennifer) Tope of North Carolina, and Matt (Enki) Nickels of Lonetree, CO; many great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon, Hank, and Donald Lewis; sisters, Josephine Augerot and Mabel Stevens; daughter, Nancy Eales; stepdaughter, Janet Nickels; and great-grandson, Christopher Henderson.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Partridge Community Church, 218 N Main, Partridge, with Pastor Jim French officiating. Friends may sign the book at Elliott Mortuary, Monday, March 30, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Partridge Community Church -Face the Storm Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St. Hutchinson, KS 67501.
