1933-2026
Bonnie J. Barnett, 92, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on June 26, 1933, in Oshkosh, Nebraska, to Joseph and Alta Jackson.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, James (August 23, 2025) who she had been married to for 72 years as well as her beloved daughter Lori, who passed away in December 2023.
In June of 1952, Bonnie and James sealed their vows and began their 72-year marriage. Together, they raised three children: Gene, Lori, and Robin. Their family grew to include seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. While James dedicated 45 years of service to the Santa Fe Railroad, Bonnie maintained their home and dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were always a special treat and she loved every minute she had with them.
In 1993, as James neared retirement they embarked on an adventure of building their retirement dream home in Branson West Mo. They spent 15 wonderful years on Table Rock Lake enjoying lake life. She loved teaching the grandchildren to swim and ski, and when the family wasn’t there she spent time in her other passions, reading and gardening.
Bonnie was an avid reader and spent long hours enjoying her favorite novels and books on gardening and put her knowledge to work in her flower and vegetable gardens. During the summers she enjoyed a regular swim off the dock swimming laps and playing with the grandkids in the water during their summer visits.
Later, they moved to Kansas City to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. But after 5 years of living in North Kansas City they felt drawn back to the lake so returned to Table Rock Lake.
A graveside service will be held at Chanute Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, June 12th at 2:00pm. Graveside services will be followed by a reception for family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
