Barbara J. Hobson, 82, of Hutchinson, died May 19, 2026, surrounded by her sisters at Salina Regional Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1944 in Hutchinson, to William Sr. “Bill” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Costello) Hobson.
Barbara graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962. She attended Hutchinson Junior College, then, attended the University of Kansas for one year.
Barbara was a charter and devoted member of Church of the Holy Cross. She was very strong in her Catholic faith and loved the Lord. Barbara showed God’s love to her family abundantly and unconditionally while always being present and kind.
She loved spending time taking care of children and enjoyed the company of dogs. Barbara could often be seen in her neighborhood taking her Husky, Tasha, on her walks. She was a lifelong reader until her sight failed. Then, she began to enjoy watching game shows. Barbara was the ultimate Kansas City Royals fan and never missed a game.
Barbara is survived by: sisters, Mary Hobson and Helen Hobson, both of Hutchinson; niece, Kellie and husband David Pankratz of Cheney; nephew, Jay Self of Cheney; great nieces and nephews, Nicholas Pankratz (Lacey), Daniel Pankratz (Ruby), Thomas Pankratz (Destiny), Noel Pankratz, and Lily Pankratz; great-great nieces and nephew, Josie, Ethan, and Ainsley; and beloved puppy dogs, Ollie and Koda.
She was preceded in death by her: parents; brother, William C. Hobson Jr.; and beloved Huskie, Tasha.
Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Church of the Holy Cross Gymnasium, 2631 Independence Rd, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church, both officiated by Father Andrew Meng. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Church of the Holy Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St. Hutchinson, KS 67501.
