Alex Thomas Gianakon, 90, passed away peacefully January 11, 2026, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born December 16, 1935, in Hutchinson to Athanasios Thomas and Flora (Apostolou) Gianakopoulos.
Alex graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1953. He served his country following graduation and is an Army veteran. Alex loved watching sports and always rooted for the underdog. He also liked to read non-fiction. Alex enjoyed listening to music and watching country westerns.
On July 31, 1973, he married Patricia Mills. They later divorced after 27 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children and remained friends. She survives
Alex is survived by: his children, Alexa (Robert) Cross, Tina Gianakon, both of Hutchinson, Matthew (Brittni) Gianakon of Goddard; grandchildren, Dylan and Kendra Cross, Timothy and Hailey Gianakon; and great-grandson, Niko Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul T. Gianakon.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Victorious Life Church, 1200 E. 10th St, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
