Georgetown, KY. – McPherson College wrapped up its spring break trip in Kentucky with matches against the Georgetown College Tigers and 2nd nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson University. After dropping their opener to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Bulldogs entered the final stretch of the trip looking to bounce back and take two of their last three contests.
Thursday, March 19th vs. Georgetown College: MC 7, GC 0
The Bulldogs swept the doubles, winning all three matchups in dominant fashion with scores of 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
That energy carried right into singles, where Vanessa Hofer set the tone on the #1 Singles court with a pair of 6-3 wins to lock McPherson’s second point of the day. Taimi Nashiku followed suit with a strong showing at the #2 spot, cruising to a 6-1 victory in the first set before battling to take the second 6-4. Isabella Ellerbee delivered a similar performance at #3 Singles, handling her match with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
With the match well in hand, the Bulldogs closed things out in style. Laureen Van Drunen, Maria Luisa de Lama, and Eva Lesteluhu each added to the tally, with Lesteluhu putting an exclamation point of the day, turning in a flawless performance with back-to-back 6-0 wins.
Friday, March 20th vs. No. 2 Lindsey Wilson University: MC 0, LWC 7
McPherson’s matchup against Lindsey Wilson had a much different feel than the day before, as the Bulldogs ran into a tough Blue Raiders squad ranked 2nd in the nation.
Doubles play proved to be an uphill battle, with Lindsey Wilson sweeping all three courts by scores of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-0 to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Blue Raiders continued to showcase their ranking, taking each singles match with scores of 6-0, 6-1, or 6-2. Despite the final results, the Bulldogs didn’t go quietly; Ellerbee and Van Drunen each put up a fight, battling through competitive games before ultimately dropping a set 6-3.
