WICHITA, Kan. – Sterling College hosted Oklahoma Christian University and University of Saing Mary for the Sterling Invitational held at the Wichita Swim Club on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Warriors posted two new personal best times from Allison Reed in the 200Y freestyle and Hilde Heskett in the 50Y freestyle. Abby Cagle and Lydia Nelson also had season best times in the 100Y butterfly and 200Y freestyle, respectively.
For the men, the team of Juwayne “JJ” Silmon, Parker Rea, Ian Esquivel and Gavin Turner competed in the 200Y medley relay where they finished seventh with a time of 1:56.94.
Silmon had a strong performance in the 200Y individual medley where he finished sixth with a time of 2:32.22. In the 50Y freestyle, Rea, Silmon and Parker placed 11th, 15th and 16th with times of 23.81, 25.66 and 27.26, respectively.
Rea also swam in the 100Y freestyle where he finished 13th with a time of 53.44.
Esquivel had strong performances in the 200Y freestyle and 500y freestyle finishing seventh in both events. He swam a time of 2:12.74 in the 200Y freestyle and a time of 6:24.31 in the 500y freestyle.
The women started off the meet with Bree Pickerell, Lydia Nelson, Elliott Campbell and Abby Cagle finishing sixth in the 200Y medley relay.
A whole host of Lady Warriors swam in the 50Y freestyle with Cagle leading the way with a time of 26.57 to finish fifth. Reed, Hilde Heskett and Campbell placed ninth, 10th and 11th with times of 27.55, 27.72 and 27.86, respectively. Pickerell rounded out the field for Sterling with a time of 28.31 to place 12th.
In the 200Y freestyle, Nelson set a season best time of 2:09.85 to finish fourth while Allison Reed had a personal best time of 2:12.51 to finish sixth. She also finished sixth in the 200Y backstroke with a time of 2:35.96.
Pickerell swam in the 500Y freestyle where she placed fifth with a time of 5:42.77. She also competed in the 100Y backstroke where she swam a time of 1:06.95 to place sixth.
Cagle swam a season best time in the 100Y butterfly finishing eighth with a time of 1:08.59. Lydia Nelson also had a strong swim in the 200Y individual medley where she placed fifth with a time of 2:29.35.
The Lady Warriors finished the meet Cagle, Reed, Elliott and Nelson finishing fifth in the 400Y freestyle relay.
