Track Competes in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. — The Hesston College track and field teams competed in a deep field at the Wichita State Coach Wilson Invitational, facing athletes from NAIA, NJCAA and NCAA programs Jan. 30-31. The Larks were represented across sprints, middle distance, distance and field events.

On the men’s side, Hesston saw action in the sprints and across a wide range of distance races. Justin Young led the way in the 400 meters, finishing 38th with a time of 53.99 seconds. Nick Win competed in the 60 meters alongside Zachary Graham and Young, each posting solid efforts in the preliminaries. In the middle distances, Seth Crouse paced the Larks in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.17 to place 34th. Nathan Lewis followed in 2:12.90 and Ethan Gonzalez crossed in 2:14.83. In the mile, Jonah Krumme recorded a time of 4:58.68, with Ethan Thompson and Jack Hunter also competing. Krumme doubled back in the 3000 meters to place 28th in 9:21.82, while Gonzalez and Hunter rounded out the event for Hesston. The Larks closed the meet with strong efforts in the 5000 meters, where Thompson finished 19th in 18:04.22, followed closely by Sebastian Pavlovich and Landon Lunsford.

The women’s team was led by a mix of sprint and field performances. Krystina Clemons competed in both the 60 meters and 400 meters, finishing 50th in the 60 and placing 24th in the 400. In the field, freshmen Keira Rankin and Ellie Smith represented Hesston in the shot put. Rankin recorded a best throw of 9.57 meters to place 28th, while Smith followed with a mark of 8.84 meters.

The Larks will look to wrap up their indoor season on Feb. 20 at Friday Night Lights hosted by Northwest Missouri State University
