Tigers Take Series From OPSU in High Scoring Weekend

Goodwell, Okla. – There was no shortage of offense this weekend as the Tigers took to Oklahoma Panhandle State University for a three game conference series. There was a total of 55 runs across the three games. The Tigers outscored the Aggies 32 to 23 and took two of the three games.

In game one, the Tigers got the scoring started early as Braedon Ulrich doubled to drive in a run to give them a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would strike for a total of 14 runs in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings and do so by hitting four homeruns and multiple extra base hits. The Aggies tried to mount a comeback, scoring 5 runs in the 7th inning but the Tigers were able to escape the jam to win game 1, 15-9.

Game two was much of the same as the Tigers and Aggies scored a combined 19 runs and the Tigers battled back after giving up three runs in the first two innings. Gary Ford launched a 3-run homerun in the 3rd to tie the score at 3-3. The Tigers put up a five run 5th inning with three extra base hits in the inning. Ahead 9-7 in the 7th, the Tigers got into some trouble as they loaded the bases and allowed the tying run to score as they allowed back to back walks. With the score even at 9, the Aggies singled to left to bring in the winning run to steal game 2 from the Tigers, 10-9.

On Saturday, the Tigers turned to Justin Evasovic in the rubber match. Evasovic was solid for the Tigers, going 8 innings and allowing 3 runs and striking out 6 batters. The Tigers continued their hot weekend at the plate, logging 8 runs on 10 hits as they would go on to beat the Aggies 8-4 and take the series.

The Tigers get back to within a game of .500 (14-15) and are now 9-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Tigers now turn their attention to Mid-America Christian University as they host the Evangels in McPherson on Friday and Saturday. The games will also be streamed on the Urban Edge Network and SAC Sports Network.
