Plainview, Texas. – The Tigers faced a tough road test Thursday night, falling 97–62 to Wayland Baptist in Plainview as the Pioneers used an explosive first half to seize control early. Central Christian struggled to find rhythm offensively in the opening minutes, while Wayland capitalized on its home court, building a sizeable halftime advantage that proved difficult to overcome.
Despite the deficit, the Tigers continued to compete and showed improved energy after the break. Jaeden Whitten led Central Christian with 15 points, attacking the basket and providing a steady presence on the offensive end. Jevarrick Butler added 11 points, while Chris Whitten chipped in 10, giving the Tigers multiple scoring options as they worked to cut into the lead.
However the Pioneers maintained their momentum throughout the second half, answering every Tigers run and continuing to score efficiently. The Pioneers were led by Jamari Lawrence’s 21 points, with Rico Yarbrough adding 19 points and controlling the glass, and Chuks Ejiofor contributing 16, making it difficult for Central Christian to gain sustained traction.
The Tigers fall to 8-11 (3-10) on the season and will look to get back in the win column at home on Thursday night against Southwestern Christian University who narrowly defeated the Tigers at home 2 weeks ago. The game will tip-off around 7:45 and will be streamed on the SAC Sports Network and Urban Edge Network.
