Leavenworth, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team put together an impressive weekend, completing a three-game sweep over Saint Mary behind strong pitching and explosive offense across the series.
GAME 1: SWEDES 6, SPIRES 5
The Swedes opened the series with a hard-fought victory, using a five-run stretch between the third and fourth innings to take control. Conner Balmer led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Fernando Bones added a pair of hits and an RBI. Eduardo Tarafa provided a key home run as part of his two-run performance.
On the mound, Joseph Guzman delivered 5.0 solid innings, allowing just two runs while striking out four. The bullpen held on late, with Giovanny Orozco closing out the final inning to secure the win.
GAME 2: SWEDES 17, SPIRES 7
Bethany’s offense exploded in game two, totaling 19 hits and 17 runs in a dominant performance. A massive 10-run sixth inning broke the game open and put the Swedes firmly in control.
Balmer continued his strong weekend with three hits and four RBIs, while Eduardo Tarafa added three RBIs, including a home run. Will Parsons contributed three hits and three RBIs, and Ryan Smith had a huge day, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Juan Melo provided stability on the mound, pitching 6.0 innings in relief to earn the win and limit damage after the early innings.
GAME 3: SWEDES 9, SPIRES 2
The Swedes capped off the sweep with another complete performance, collecting 14 hits in a 9–2 victory. Eduardo Tarafa led the offense with four hits and two RBIs, while Yan Ortiz added a home run and two RBIs. Fernando Bones and Jack Crain each chipped in multi-hit performances to keep the offense rolling.
Abraham Ortiz controlled the game on the mound, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing just two runs. Wesly Martinez closed out the final inning to seal the sweep.
Bethany’s balanced attack and consistent pitching were the difference all weekend, as the Swedes controlled each game and built momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.

The Swedes will return to action on March 28–29 for a weekend series against the Avila Eagles, looking to carry momentum from the sweep into their next conference matchup.
