Swedes split with Falcons, Baker deals with 5KS

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team played host to the Friends University Falcons on Saturday, March 21.

GAME 1: SWEDES 3, FALCONS 1

Things were quiet until the fifth inning when Ulissa Rivas hit a two-RBI double down the left field line scoring Kyson Vap and Abigail TaylorAvery Newmiller followed that up with another double to left field scoring Addilyn Miller who was pinch-running for Rivas. Bethany would allow one run in the next inning, but would take Game One by a score of 3-1.

Newmiller was outstanding with three hits in three at-bats. Abigail Taylor was efficient with one hit and one run scored.

Dylann Baker drew the start lasting 5.2 innings striking out five Falcons. Amia Alexander-Sims finished off the last 1.1 innings allowing no hits and striking out two.

GAME 2: SWEDES 5, FALCONS 11

Bethany opened Game 2 with two runs in the first via an Emmaline Senecaut single to right field scoring Ulissa Rivas and Alex Udy. The Falcons would score eight in the fifth; thier second time in as many series. That would proved too much as the Swedes would tack on three in the final two innings, but would not overcome the deficit. The Swedes would lose 5-11.

Alex Udy was a force at the plate going three-for-four and a run scored. Emmaline Senecaut went two-for-three with two RBI. Ulissa Rivas also had two RBI while also teaming up with Kalee Aguilar on a double-play to end the first inning.

Jordyn Stelzig got the start in the circle and lasted 4.0 innings while not giving up a run until the fifth. The trio of Paris HammerAyianna Revels, and MacKenzie Yoder would relieve the final 3.0 innings with the later pitching 2.0 innings.

The Swedes have a date with the Sterling College Warriors. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24, in Sterling, Kan.
