Hillsboro, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team took a trip to Hillsboro, Kan. to take on the Tabor College BlueJays in a meaningful conference match-up.
GAME 1: SWEDES 4, BLUEJAYS 6
The Swedes jumped on the board in the second inning as Abigail Taylor hit a two-RBI single scoring Emmaline Senecaut and Addilyn Miller to break the scoreless tie. Ulissa Rivas followed that up with a double down the left field line scoring Taylor and Kyson Vap to put the Swedes up 4-0. The BlueJays would answer back with one in the bottom half of the inning and five in the fourth. The Swedes would fall 4-6.
Bethany would rack up nine hits as a team. Miller and Taylor would each tally two hits with the former swiping two bags as well. Rivas and Senecaut each hit a double in the contest.
Dylann Baker drew the start lasting 4.0 innings while striking out five. Jordyn Stelzig pitched the final 2.0 innings.
GAME 2: SWEDES 4, BLUEJAYS 12
Tabor would jump on the board early with three runs in the first inning. They would tack on one more in the third to increase their lead to four.
Bethany would capitalize on a BlueJay error and Megan O’Neal and Camille Stauffer would each score on an errant throw by the third baseman cutting the lead down to two. In the sixth, Ulissa Rivas would single home Gabriella Nigro, and with a little help from a poor throw by the right fielder, Kyson Vap would touch home plate to knot it at 4-4.
Unfortunately, after a couple of wild pitches and home runs, the BlueJays would close it out in the sixth inning scoring eight runs for a run-rule victory of 12-4.
Gabriella Nigro would extend her consecutive at-bats with a hit to three after pinch-hitting in the sixth inning. Ulissa Rivas extended her games with a hit streak to four while also swiping her third base of the year.
Paris Hammer drew the start for the Swedes lasting 2.0 innings. Four Swedes would enter in relief. As a staff, the Swedes struck out four batters.
